My DReams are Essential| DDJ DReamergency

(Virtual) Walk 11/28/2020

The Doris Denise Jackson Scholarship, honoring elite, destined dreamers. This year’s theme is “My Dreams are Essential.” 2020 has proven to be one of the most difficult years to keep your Dreams alive. The pandemic has truly tested our endurance. But when you’re a dreamer, nothing can stop you! Not even the Coronavirus. We are so excited that these leaders are choosing success of fear of the unknown. They are the example.

Every year our scholarship committee faces a difficult task to choose five recipients of this prestigious reward. Students are selected based on a number of factors, including their drive to dream big, the overall goals, an essay contest, and finally, their overall passion for continuing their education beyond high school. Our DDJ Scholars are future doctors, professionals, and entrepreneurs in their village. In addition, they display the qualities of leadership, tenacity, and will power. We are so proud of these young Kings and Queens. Help us congratulate our Scholars!!!!

MY Dreams are Essential because…

Jordan Kelley

Tallahassee, Florida

Middle School , Future Entrepreneur

“My dreams are essential because I am going to be successful. My dreams are essential to my future and all that I have to offer the world. I want to change lives and my dreams will give me the push I need to do big things in the world. I have a lot I want to accomplish in my life, to make my family proud of me. I have set high goals, I surround myself with positive people to motive me and know that the sky is the limit.” – Jordan Kelley

Amaya Waymon,

Tallahassee, Florida

High School , Future Neonatologist

“My dreams are essential because the future and my goals are crucial. By keeping my dreams essential I’ll achieve anything I need to accomplish.I realize that the trials and battles I go through are stepping stones for my success. Once I reach my dreams, it’s my biggest goal to bring the blueprint back to the village and the ones looking up to me. It means nothing to just be at the top and not show the others the blueprint. My drive will come before my dreams because I have to continue to work hard. The distance between dreams and reality is action. I know I have to do things in the morning and tomorrow that will push me closer to my dreams. My talk is cheap and quick but doing it that’s when the dream is effective. If I continue to have faith, dedication, and hard work and patience I’ll fulfill those dreams and that’s a promise.” – Amaya Waymon

Kalise McGowen Houston, Texas

“My Dreams are essential… (coming soon) ” – Kalise McGowen

Ashley Douglas

Tallahassee, Florida

Undergraduate School, Future Private Investigator

My dreams are essential because there’s nothing quite like the feeling of knowing that you have made it, that you have achieved everything that you always wanted. It is essential to work hard for your dreams. Without this hard work, a dream will only remain a desire in the subconscious mind and will never be achieved. Your dream is the reason for the way you are! Your dream is not a coincidence. Your dream IS who you are. You SHOULD pursue it! Your dream gives you a sense of meaning and purpose, and drives you on into your chosen future. Your dream is the meaning of your life.” – Ashley Douglas

Jalan Black

Quincy, Florida

Undergraduate School , Future Pediatric Dentist

“My dreams are essential because they help to give my life purpose, direction, and meaning. My dreams are the initial stage of setting and achieving goals. They shape your life choices, help you build toward the future, and give you a sense of control. My dreams are essential because it gives me a visual and allows me to see the greatness that is already within me. ” – Jalan Black
